A Cold One Among the Pack

tates smiled. "if thats the case- be sure to tell me if I say anything to offend you." he looked down at the wolf in his lap. "it isnt often I have what you might call friends."

"As I said, this pack, doesn't turn up their noses" Luke said. "The Alpha is something of a pacifist, he doesn't want to make wars with other races just because we are different. If half breeds weren't meant to be, then they wouldn't exist." Luke said. "Your safe here as long as you respect us, we will return the respect" He said

"Most wolves ive met dont take kindly to mutts either." he said, looking back to the fire. "For now- Im seeking sanctuary." he stated. "I came here because I heard my father was sick and needed someone to help him keep up with the job."

He looked over to the vet. "he doesnt seem very ill to me though."

Look blinked, he had never heard of such a union. "I see...and what made you come to this town?" Luke asked. "You are very much welcome here, our pack does not turn their noses up to those who are different. Are you looking for a place to be accepted? All the vampires I've met...dont seem like the type of race that would take kindly to half breeds" Luke said

"... IM only half vampire." he said after a moments hessitation. "Enough to where im stronger than any human alive- but no self respecting vampire would call me one of them." he said. "..." he looked to the sleeping vet. "Dr. Detrex is my biological father." he stated, "And my mother was a pure blood... So even though im only half im still stronger than a majority of the population thats left."

Your scent doesn't match a vampires, and a vampire can live out in the snow if they chose to, yet you were shivering, your lips were blue, and not once in my long life had I ever seen a vampire stumble when landing" Luke said. "What are you really" Luke said

"Pardon?" he raised an eyebrow.

His jacket was off, his shirt as well, just leaving his pants and blanket on. He had a light, almost white, scar running across his chest and another one that was only part visable wrapping around his back.

"Shes doing fine."

Luke jumped back through the dog door, in his jaws a pair of jeans. The white wolf fazed and Luke put on the pair of pants and tied back his shoulder length dark brown hair before walking into the room. "How's she doing?" He asked looking at Tates before kneeling down beside him. Candra lifted her head looking up at Luke, her tail lightly wagged. "Dont go changing to human for about a day Candra, let the wounds close at least understand" He said. Candra nodded her head before turning her head back towards Tates, enjoying his soothing yet strange scent. "So...whats the story with you boy?" Luke said looking at Tates

"You should go to sleep." tates told his father, idely petting the wolfs ears, enjoying the hear of the fire.

"So should you." he frowned.

"Ill be fine..." he promiced. "Its been a long day for you though..." he smiled at him. "Ill make sure nothing happens."

"...." he seemed a bit hessident but nodded and got up. he ruffled the younger mans hair before going to the cloest. he took out the last blanket and returned to the sofa.

Tates listened intently, his smile fading when he heard his heart slow with his freathing... Finally- the vet was asleep.

Candra licked Tates' cheek when he picked her up. When she was laid down she rested her head on the half breeds lap and tried to relax. At least she knew she was still the third strongest of her pack, not even being taken down by an outsider. Candra closed her eyes and tried to relax

"Ah-ah, you stay put missy." the doctor scolded. "tates, would you-" he blinked.

tates gently picked the wolf up and carried her over to the fire place, laying her down infront of it.

Retex brought over a second blanket and put it over tates shoulders with a frown. "You arent imortal you know." he whispered into his sons ear- earning a slight glare in responce.

Candra whined and lifted her head hearing the two bicker. Luke lightly growled and she laid her head back down and let out a deep sigh. Luke licked her muzzle and face once more before jumping off the chair and barked to the doc and Tates before going to the door and walked out the dog door in the back. Candra lifted her head and shifted her body trying to get up

tates came back in and frowned. "Your still only stickingthat one?"

Detex frowned. "IM being- hey!" he blinekd when tates snagged the needel form him. it took a whole of 6 minutes for him to have the gashes and cuts cleaned and stitched. "You were taking too long..."

"I was making sure-"

"That the smell gave me a headache?" he frowned at him, handding the steril thread back. "MIssion acomplished." he said.

Candra was breathing heavily, how many times did this make her coming to the doc when covered in so many wounds. She healed quicker than normal, but not that quick, she'd be out of action for at least three days. Luke jumped up onto a chair and sat watching Candra, leaning over now and then to lick her muzzle, a soft growl like whine coming from him now and then to reassure her she'd be alright

"tates- your covered in-"

"Its hers not mine." he said. "I need a needle and thread and a clean towel." he said, gently moving her thick fur out of the way to get a better look at the wounds.

He held his hand out but blinked to insted see the doctor begin working on her.

"Go sit by the fire... Your lips are blue and your shivering." he said.

Tates blinked, looking down at his hands. sure enough his nails were white and his hands shook.

"Ill be fine." he said, taking off his wet boots.

"Get dried off and put some more wood on the fire then." retex instructed.

Luke barked and the other wolves dispersed, while he ran around back and jumped through the dog door and ran through the house and stopped seeing Candra, his gold eyes watching how Tates handles her, thankful that he was helping, but he was still a vampire near open blood, he had seen vampires feed on animals before when hungry enough.

She didnt move much in his arms- he movements were as fluid as water itself.

When he saw the house and green pick up in the distance he sped up, breezing easily past all of the wolves.

When he reached the door it opened in- alowing for him to enter easily.

The doctor had already gathered blankets and was heatign water over the fire when they arrived.

Luke started to run, hoping that whatever Tates was, he would be able to keep up. It was hard to see Luke, he blended in with the white blizzard to much, thankfully his cousins were running behind him. Candra whimpered softly, trying to keep consciousness despite the pain that was shooting through her body

Tates shifted the wolf, apologizing when she whimpered. He let the wolves lead the way- still not fimilar enough with the area to find his own way back.

Luke eyed the vampire and was interested to see his landing, and then his lips. He ignored this for now and nudged his head back towards town. The challenge was over, and now Candra needed help

Tates jumped down, landing somewhat sloppily. his hands and feet were numb from the cold, and his lips were blue.

Vampires were bloodless though.... for him to have blue lips would mean he wasnt a vampire?

He gently picked her up, wrapping his jacket around her, his red eyeslocked on a rather nasty woundon her shoulder.

The fight went on for about a half hour, blood soaked the white snow on the ground, and neither wolf seemed ready to submit. After just a standstill the brown wolf fell to the snow, Candra panting, her jaws bloody from ripping open the others flesh. She felt herself growing cold from her own loss of blood. Still she stood up and threw her head back in a loud howl, Luke and her cousins joined in and the intruding pack retreaded with their fallen comrad. Once they were out of veiw and smell Candra fell to the cold snow, Luke coming up by her side and licked some of the blood from her face. He looked up towards the trees and barked wanting Tates to come down

He watched, digging his nails into the tree bark. He wasnt foolish enough to jump into a dog fight wihouth knowing the reason.

His red eyes moved from the fight to Luka, seeing he was being watched. How kind.

He moved to the other side of the tree to watch... It was in his nature to spy- not be spied on.

He clenched his jaw shut to keep his teeth from chattering. a jacket in a blizard wasnt the best choice of clothing.

Luke nudged Candra towards the other pack, her multi colors hues found the challenger, the her hackles rose, her tail slowly raised as she bared her fangs to the much stronger looking male. She walked forward and got ready for his attack. The brown wolf kicked off the ground with his hind legs and went for Candra who moved forward. She felt sharp fangs clamp down on her back, she yelped and reached down her own fangs sinking into the males hind leg causing him to yelp and let go. Luke, the white wolf Candra had gone up to was staring up into the trees knowing that the towns new vampire was there

Tates kept a safe distance, staying downwind and in the tree tops. It was only a myth that vampires coudl fly. only pure bloods could do that. However, they coud climb and jump like noones buisness.

His eyes peered out at then, curious as to what was going on. A foul scent hit him, like he had run into a brick wall. it nearly knockedhim off bllance where he was peached. Looking farther to the north he could see where it came from. a few wolves in desprid need of a bath.
